One of the core objectives behind the creation of Gloucester Services was to offer sustainable jobs and income to local people. It’s true for most people though that job hunting and recruitment can be daunting at the best of times, even more so for anyone facing barriers to work.
That’s why we created Bridging the Gap – a three-day employability skills course which we run in partnership with Gloucester Services.
We ran our first course in 2017, and have had almost 100 participants go through the programme since then, with many securing jobs at Gloucester Services as a direct result.
Barriers to work
Barriers to work can be anything from a disability or a learning difficulty, to being out of work for a period of time due to illness, having children, or having spent time in prison. Other challenges can be language barriers or having come to the UK as a refugee.
Bridging the Gap welcomes anyone experiencing any of these barriers who finds traditional recruitment and interviews difficult, and supports them in a relaxed environment where they can build their skills and confidence.
